    My First OSS Trip

    by  • February 21, 2012 • 0 Comments

I shot this photo of Garrett Reeves in June of 2009 in Brooklyn, NY on my first OSS filming trip. Adam was working on a OSS DVD project, which at the time was going to be a shorter promo video, but later developed into the full length Football DVD. At this time nothing had been publicly announced about OSS, and he asked if I would be interested in filming some stuff for the video. I was psyched to be involved and we planned a visit to coincide when Mike Taylor and Garrett Reeves would be in town. Mike arrived in NYC the same day I did, and Garrett had been crashing on Adam’s couch for the previous couple of weeks.

The first day or two went well with Garrett, Mike and I all logging some footage for the video, but soon the weather in New York just would not cooperate. Rain kept us inside for a couple of days, and we killed time by watching nearly every episode of The Office on DVD. The outlook for the rest of the week was more of the same, and somehow we came up with the idea of venturing to Toronto where the weather was expected to be better. We headed out in Garrett’s van and met up with Craig Passero and Chris Zep in Buffalo, and from there all of us went on to Canada which fortunately proved to be dry and sunny. My original plans were to stay for 3 or 4 days in Brooklyn, but by the time I was back home in Massachusetts it was more like an awesome week and a half out of town.

    Garrett is Back to Filming

Garrett Reeves has been getting out filming with Krejmas lately. He spent the last few months hurt and it is great to see him riding again. Today the three of us went out, and spent most of the afternoon getting kicked out of everywhere, but Garrett managed to end the day with a banger.

    Living With Paul

About two weeks ago I moved into an apartment with Zach Krejmas aka Paul.  We are living in the heart of Cambodia Town a couple of blocks from the OSS house.  Its an ideal setup as its easy to meet up with the crew and I have a civilized environment to return to at the end of the day.  I loved the times I spent crashing in the OSS house, but being there permanently would be a bit too hectic for me.   Prior to living with Paul I had only met him briefly a couple times while visiting Long Beach, and then again during the week he stayed at the OSS Denver house, and we had the chance to shoot this downside whip.  Suffice to say I don’t really know him all that well, and during the short time we have spent in the new apartment I have started to learn a bit about him.  Most notably thus far is that he manages to burn an extraordinary percentage of the food he tries to cook.  Toast charred black is a regular occurrence, watching Paul opening up all the windows to air out the burnt popcorn smell is no surprise, and in general I have grown used to expecting to smell some item of food burning nearly everyday.

    Devinfeil.com Website Update

I just updated my photography portfolio site devinfeil.com with a bunch work from this past summer and fall.  This photo of was taken the first week of the Denver trip back in September.  Alex Platt had ventured off to the top of a parking garage, and I followed him up there, and was able to get this shot of the crew as Gabe Brooks took a break from filming a line.

    Back On The Grind.

It’s February but most of the team has relocated to sunny Long Beach so we’re hard at work riding every day lately. Even the old, lazy team manager (that’s me) got a clip today, seen above shot by our in house photographer, Devin Feil. Pretty much everyone on the team is healthy and most of us don’t have pressing web video deadlines so we’re currently stacking for a future project. Everyone has been getting stuff done and while we have no idea what we’re filming for exactly, it’s been fun going out every day.

    Life’s a Beach

Last night a few of us went out on a Mastroni generator mission to get a clip of him for an upcoming Volume edit he is working on.  We were not actually filming at the beach, and the entire time we were at the spot I thought the little yellow sand bucket was brought along as a prop for the clip.  I figured Mastroni had placed it there while I was busying carrying over my photo gear.  He laughed at my notion of him bringing props, but I wouldn’t put it past him to start doing it.  Thank you to the little boy or girl left it behind, because I like what it adds to the photo we got.
